What's new for 2023?
Audi is making only mild changes to the e-tron and the e-tron Sportback trims for 2023. A black headliner now comes standard on the base Sportback SUVs and for e-tron Sportback Prestige models, the new standard equipment includes 22-inch wheels and distinctive orange front and rear brake calipers. It also includes Audi's Matrix-design headlights and a Black Optic exterior package.
EV motor and performance
Underneath the e-tron's body work Audi has placed two electric motors, one at the front axle and the other located at the rear. Together they create electronic all-wheel drive with the rear motor doing most of the work. When you're in a regular driving situation the two motors create a combined 355 horsepower and 414 pounds feet of torque. The e-tron exhibits traditional SUV behavior with the ability to tow as much as 4,000 pounds. The more powerful e-tron Sportback S raises the output up to 496 horsepower and an impressive 718 pound-feet of torque.
Range and charging times
The regular Audi e-tron has an estimated driving range of 222 miles which, of course, is substantially below the 412 miles of range that regular car owners in Moorhead, MN and Cass County, ND get on a full tank of gas with the average gasoline-powered vehicle. Other trims, frankly, have an even shorter range. If you pay for a conventional 240-volt outlet installed in your garage it will take about 9 hours to fully charge the etron. This is an understandable concern that today's luxury buyers in Detroit Lakes, MN and Jamestown, ND have to ponder as they compare spending hours charging an EV with the five minutes it takes to fill a traditional vehicle at a gas station.
Fuel economy
The regular Audi e-tron SUV should give you the equivalent of 67 MPG for all the Sportback gives you the equivalent of 75 MPG. Only you can decide if the fuel efficiency ratings are worth the long charging times and short driving ranges that most of today's electric vehicles involve. We can help you decide whether you should stick with a more traditional Audi for now until the technology develops further.
